Mission Projects
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 10: 27, NIV)
Oakland Presbyterian Church supports a host of mission projects and is always searching for new community and world outreach programs. Below are some of our current projects.
Quarterly Food Harvest
The food collected in this effort will go to the Basic Needs Ministry at 40/42 for distribution to families in the Cleveland school area.
Habitat for Humanity Johnston County
Habitat for Humanity Johnston County is a Christian organization and welcomes volunteers from all faiths who are committed to Habitat's goal of eliminating poverty housing. Anyone interested in volunteering on a Habitat worksite or at the Habitat ReStore, please contact Annis Barbee.
Health Kits
Health kits are prepared for victims of disasters as needed.
Basic Needs Ministry
The Oakland Presbyterian Church family continues to collect food staples, which benefit area people in need of a helping hand. Collection boxes for staple foods are located throughout the church. The next quarterly Food Drive is scheduled for Sunday, April 6.
Golden Circle Bible Study (Brian Center)
A mission of the church to provide spiritual comfort to our senior folks in the community. Oakland volunteers travel to the Brian Center each Saturday to lead a time of worship and Bible study.
Barium Springs Home for Children
Under the direction of the Presbyterian Women, product labels from Campbell, Swanson, Pepperidge Farms, and Prego products are collected. The labels are sent to the Barium Springs Home for Children and help provide education and recreational equipment.
Relay for Life
Relay For Life® is the American Cancer Society's signature event that brings more than 3.5 million people from 4,900 communities across the country together each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.
Oakland fields a team each year in June to walk and display luminaries in honor of and in memory of those who have battled cancer.
