Food Ministries Guidelines
Funeral
- Any OPC family who requests a meal following the death of a loved one will be served.
- The death of any OPC member will instigate a call to the family to offer a meal to the extended family on the day of the funeral or at another time convenient to the family.
- Any OPC member who suffers the death of a close relative (child, mother, father, brother, sister) who lives in this area and does not have a church home will instigate a call to the family to offer a meal to the extended family on the day of the funeral or at another time convenient to the family.
- Any OPC member who suffers the death of a close relative who lives out of this area will be offered a meal for the immediate family when they return home.
- If the death of any of the above occurs during a holiday or a time when most church members are not available to cook for the family, the Food Committee is authorized to purchase the needed items from funds in the PW treasury. The Food Chair and/or the Food Committee may use her/their own judgment as to whether or not to offer any meal and type of meal offered in unusual circumstances.
Illness
- Any OPC family who requests a meal during a time of illness will be served.
- A meal will be offered to an OPC family during a time of hospitalization, serious illness or childbirth. One meal will be provided for the immediate family along with a casserole to be used later.
- Outpatient surgery will not necessarily instigate a call to offer a meal. A meal may be offered in this circumstance depending on the individual situation.
Collecting Old Cell Phones
Kelly Yelvington Luter is collecting old cell phones. The phones will be donated to the Call to Protect program which assists charities against domestic violence. Donated phones are refurbished to dial 911 and domestic violence shelters. Distribution of the cell phones is conducted by police departments and shelters. They offer the victims a means of contacting help in the event of an emerency. If you would like addtional information, contact Kelly Luter.
Continuing Events
Oakland Presbyterian Women continue to support Barium Springs Home for Children by collecting Campbell product labels. The labels help provide educational and recreational equipment for the Home. Product labels from Campbell, Pepperidge Farms, Prego, Swanson and V-8 juice products are good for this project.
